We all know how increasingly important it has become to reduce our consumption of plastic — to help protect the environment and all our wildlife. That’s why Sofidel, our parent company, has set a goal of reducing plastic use in our products by 50% by the year 2030.
How are we doing it?
As you might already know, we have already introduced kraft paper packaging to replace the plastic packaging on Regina Blitz and Seriously Soft. This paper can be reused or recycled in your household recycling bin.
What about our other products?
We are continually making changes throughout our production process. This includes a general reduction in the thickness of plastic used, as well as using more and more recycled plastic and bioplastics. For example, the packaging used for Seriously Strong is biodegradable and compostable — so you can use it to line your food compost bin!
Our progress so far
Between 2013 and 2020, Sofidel reduced plastic use by 19.6% by adopting thinner plastic film and optimising the design of our packaging. We are working to improve this further over the next few years!
What else are we doing to help the environment?
It’s not just about reducing plastic use. 100% of the pulp used to produce our paper is certified by independent third parties with forest certification schemes (FSC®, FSC Controlled Wood and PEFC™). We also ensure that we use water and energy as efficiently as possible. In 2020, the average amount of water consumed in our production processes was 7.2 litres per kg of paper produced, very close to the lower end of the range recommended by the Best Available Techniques of European Union for Pulp and Paper sector.
Here at Regina, we are committed to reducing our impact on the environment in every way possible. We have already made lots of improvements and will continue our progress into the future.
