Earth Hour

An initiative born in Australia in 2007, Earth Hour is an international WWF event which aims to draw attention to the need to intervene in climate change through a simple gesture – turning out the lights for one hour on a chosen day.

In 2019, Earth Hour will take place all over the world on 30th March from 8.30pm to 9.30pm and many have already pledged to take part.

163 countries, 7,000 cities and more than three billion people have signed up, including significant landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Colosseum, Piazza San Marco, the Sydney Opera House and many others.

Committing to Earth Hour isn’t just about saving energy, it also symbolises the dark future of our polluted world if we don’t join together in the battle against climate change.

There are many ways you can get involved. Why not organise a candlelit dinner at home for you and your friends or a safari-style dinner with your neighbours in your road?

Visit the Earth Hour website where you can pledge to take part and also find toolkits to download. Don’t forget to let your friends and family know what you’re up to on social media using the hashtag #Connect2Earth so that they can get involved too.
